Course overview:

Oral surgery involves a number of routine and complex procedures including dental (wisdom) extractions, dental implant and alveolar surgery, bone grafting and sinus lifts. A number of which are not practiced at the undergraduate level. This could be further complicated by the patient’s medical condition, medications used, physiology and psychology. This webinar aims to discuss these factors to identify the risk factors, to reduce complications, to improve clinical outcome and how to deal with complications when they occur.

Dr. Ben Lee (Prosthodontist)

BDS (Otago), MDSc (Pros) (Syd), MRACDS (Pros), Clinical Lecturer

Ben completed his MDSc in Prosthodontics from University of Sydney. During this time, he was given the Young Prosthodontist Award by The International College of Prosthodontists. He is the past president of the Australian Prosthodontic Society (NSW) and Australian Asian Association of Dentists. He is a mentor for implant diploma courses offered by the University of Sydney, University of Melbourne and Charles Sturt University. In addition to being a visiting honorary Clinical Lecturer at the University of Sydney and a frequent presenter for Nobel Biocare, Ben frequently presents on the topic of dental implants and fixed prosthodontics nationwide. As a prosthodontist, Ben works full-time in his referral based specialist practice in Chatswood, Sydney with particular interest in the surgical and restorative aspects of dental implant treatment.

Dr. Thao Truong (Oral Surgeon)

BMedSci (Hons I), BDent (Hons), GradDipSurgDent, DClinDent(Oral Surgery), MRACDS

After completing a Bachelor of Medical Science degree with First Class Honours, Thao continued her studies and graduated with Honours in the Bachelor of Dentistry at the University of Sydney in 2012. Upon graduation, Thao worked for 3 years at the Sydney Dental Hospital as an Oral Surgery Resident and developed a keen interest in oral surgery. She continued this interest in Perth for the next four years, practicing surgical procedures in private practice. During this time, she has built an excellent reputation and a sound referral base for oral surgery and patients requiring IV sedation or general anaesthesia. After eight years of experience in both public and private sectors, with a constant drive for improvement, Thao has decided to specialise in the field of oral surgery. To achieve this, Thao went on to complete her postgraduate training in Oral Surgery at the University of Sydney.

Dr. Zoe Potres (Prosthodontist)

BDS (Ade) MPhilDent DClinDent (Pros) (Syd) MRACDS (Pros)

Zoe completed her undergraduate dental training at the University of Adelaide in 2004. After working in Adelaide and Sydney for a number of years, she went on to complete a specialist training in prosthodontics at the University of Sydney (USYD). Zoe has undertaken a Master degree at USYD in the topic of growth and remodelling of the temporomandibular joint, she was also the leading researcher on the topic of bone augmentation and dental implant placement.  Zoe has over 15 years of clinical dental experience, her special interests include cosmetic dentistry, especially dental ceramics and veneers, implant dentistry, occlusal rehabilitation, and fixed and removable prosthodontics. Zoe has served a role as a committee member of the Australian Prosthodontic Society and she is the current president of the society.
